"micro-bead" is a new type of ultra-fine fly ash product of yunnan anling lifang new building material Co., Ltd. It's a type of ultra-fine (sub-micron level) full spherical mineral additive produced with high quality fly ash through unique process. Micro-bead has such excellent features as: High activity, light weight, heat insulation, perfect electric insulation, perfect high and low temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, radiation resistance, sound insulation, friction resistance, high anti-pressure strength, excellent fluidity, stable thermal stability, uncommon resistance heating effect, waterproof, fireproof and innocuity. It is high quality raw material for new type of compound material industry and new type additives for high performance concrete.
I. Physical indicators:
1. Powdery shape: Completely spherical and the surface of the bead is extremely slippery (all are solid glass bead)
2. Fineness: Average diameter is 2.5um (average diameter of normal fly ash is 20um)
3. Spherical density: 2.42g/cm3
4. Bulk density: 0.8-1g/cm3

As it's well known that concrete is a type of typical bulk structure engineering material. The main difference between high performance concrete and normal concrete is high performance concrete has comparatively high strength, perfect workability and higher durability. The remarkable characteristic is its compact structure. The measures to prepare high performance concrete is maintain low water/gel ratio and to add super fine powder filler and to use highly effective fluidity agent, besides the use of proper cement and aggregates. The commonly used super fine powdery filler is silica fume, but although silica fume can remarkably increase the strength and structure compactness of concrete, it damage the workability of concrete and has high cost. Meanwhile, as silica fume has good activity and high hydration heat, it increases curing difficulty while it can fast make concrete achieve early strength; In the post phase concrete will have slight micro-crack as the concrete dries and shrinks. All these defects are the radical causes to decrease post strength and durability and other performance indicators of concrete. The other high activity milled slag will encounter the other problem of "effects of secret-water" if it's used as admixture in preparing high performance concrete, so concrete will have lamination phenomena, and this will affect the quality of concrete. Additionally, due to the granule fineness feature and scrambling of shape of mineral powder, it has limited filling performance for the gap of under 10um, so it has certain limitation in preparing high performance concrete.
Likely, due to the characteristics of fly ash, the fly ash is able to effectively improve fluidity of concrete and it has certain filling compaction function. However, due to the fineness and activity of the fly ash, in general, its 28 days strength will not exceed that of cement and its contribution to strength of concrete is limited, so its effect is not as good as silica fume.
